Leaving aside prestige classes for now, which class is the most overpowered?
I personally think sorcerers and bards may be the most overpowered simply because of the Diplomacy and Bluff skills. By using the right familiar and feats and maxing out diplomacy, a 1st level sorcerer can have +15 to Bluff, or a +14 to Diplomacy, without even using magic or items. As they progress, they gain access to Eagle's Splendor, disguise spells, other illusion spells, Bestow Curse, Heroism, Touch of Idiocy, Mind Fog, and many other spells that can be used to make people especially trustworthy. Meanwhile, bards get perhaps one of the most powerful spells out there: Glibness, which gives them a +30 to Bluff, which allows them to easily pull off completely ridiculous bluffs for 10 minutes per caster level, which is a minimum of a bit over an hour. Neither of these classes are the strongest combat-wise, but they can easily sway every NPC they meet and fool other PCs into serving them, and, since bards get decent skillpoints and have Speak Language as a class skill and can therefore communicate with anything that speaks a non-druidic language at first level, they can essentially turn everything they meet into an ally and become insane powerful.
What about you? What do you think is the strongest class? This isn't just a matter of who deals the most damage and which one is easiest to play, what class do you think is the best?

Really a lot of it depends on how you play your class. A wizard that casts haste will have a different impact on the game versus one that casts fireball cersus one that casts stinking cloud. I voted for druid. Good spell selection, animal companion, wild shape, decent hp and fighting abilities too. Really, I think this says it best: www.majhost.com/gallery/zhalath/motfails/druidsaurus.jpgWith that being said, I like playing bard. They get a good skill selection, nice abilities and can do a bit of everything. In fact I'm looking forward to playing one again. Crystalwind are you aware of the tier system?

Yeah, and it's a fine way of determining the power of obvious class features, but D&D is full of little exploits and seemingly innocent but actually OP traits. For example, a second level character could have +8 to fortitude saves by being a multiclass sorcerer/wizard, and therefore having two familiars, or a party of four could move 60 feet a round by grappling. And, of course, the whole business with Improved Trip.
In short, it works well to describe how the class's features work in a vacuum, but I'm curious as to which ones would be the most powerful. Maybe it's clerics and druids. Maybe someone will spot something that makes another class more powerful than expected. We'll see.
