I've got a new comic up now, and I'm continuing work on the Manjulias RPG. Thanks to the work I did on the Mario fangame, it's helping a lot with creation of the new game. Here's the next comic. We take a brief trip to the Kingdom of Freedom to see Denise relaxing and flying about the heaven, where she ends up getting suckered into a Planar Binding spell...yet again. Denise is an adorable Fluttershy-expy. She's certainly lacking in self-preservation instincts, though. Please stay safe, Denise. Is she somewhere between 7 and 12 HD, or was she referring to the "planar ally" spell tree instead of that specific spell?

Is she somewhere between 7 and 12 HD, or was she referring to the "planar ally" spell tree instead of that specific spell? There's a bit of magic involved in the capturing of her as well, so it's not just the desire to eat sweet, sweet gummy bears. Denise has 12 HD, so she'd qualify for the Planar Ally spell or Planar Binding in this case. Incidentally getting an Astral Deva may be one of the best possible outcomes for a spell like this, as D&D wise you're getting a 12 HD creature with a CR of 14.

Really, what can you expect when you tempt fate like that.
Is that a Forcecage?

And just in time for Halloween...
Kids, don't eat random floating gummi bears, or you too may end up magically drafted by a high-level wizard.

Am I the only one that immediately thought Thomas cast "Summon Booty Call" with his past contact with Denise?

Am I the only one that immediately thought Thomas cast "Summon Booty Call" with his past contact with Denise? Nope. You weren't. Considering that he has a sentient doorknocker, was arrested before, has a generally bad rep, and taught Brian, it hardly seems beyond him, although setting the trap with gummi bears seems well past his normal level of creepy.

Actually the whole gummy bear thing is a reference to one of my voting incentive pictures from before.

Hey, thats what I would have done at some point if I had the magical know how. Just make sure whoever you use it on does not come from a plane that tends to be for people that enjoy holding onto grudges...

Hey, thats what I would have done at some point if I had the magical know how. Just make sure whoever you use it on does not come from a plane that tends to be for people that enjoy holding onto grudges... Planar Binding by its nature is pretty dangerous, especially when it comes to evil outsiders. Sometimes evil outsiders willingly enter these traps just to get a way to enter Manjulias and wreak havoc on the plane and its creatures. If a Devil has some kind of agenda planned that involves being on Manjulias, they could simply just have their payment be the extra time spent on the plane to fulfill that agenda. If a demon is called, they might not even honor their part of the contract fully or attack the caster upon arrival in Manjulias if it can break free of the trap. That being said, good outsiders also can willingly enter such traps especially if the caster calling them has familiar magic. There's a definite possibility that Denise knew Mr. Stratus was going to call her to Manjulias again and has the excuse she needs to actually help the Elves defend their kingdom.

You'd think that at some point some wizard or sorcerer would invent the weaker spell "planar invitation" that doesn't compel anyone, except possibly holding them back from going out into the world (but not back to theirs) until the bargaining was complete. Might even manage to knock the spell level down by one, or decrease the XP cost. Probably easier to bargain, too, as the person who joins you is completely willing... though the expectations might be different.

Ah, edit to the above: No experience cost for planar binding, unlike planar ally (really not sure WHY, but whatever) but the possibly improved bargaining point still holds.

Am I the only one that immediately thought Thomas cast "Summon Booty Call" with his past contact with Denise? Far too rapey for my taste...I would rather use an Extended Greater Shadow Conjuration, that creates solid illusions rather than enslaving a sentient being.
