I've got an update to the comic. Sorry it took so long, but I've been working a lot on the Manjulias RPG...specifically spriting. Angelo's Miracle gets denied, due to Angelo not having quite enough EXP to pull it off. I guess Sophia'll have to wait for now, though it seems something else has caught Angelo's attention for the moment. What gave that away, Angelo? The glowing green eyes?

"Your Miracle request has been denied. You require more EXP." for those who cant read binary.

What gave that away, Angelo? The glowing green eyes? People under the dominate spell do seem a bit ostentatious in this comic, don't they? "Your Miracle request has been denied. You require more EXP." for those who cant read binary. It's cool someone caught that right off.

So Angelo didn't have 5000 XP to give? He's less than 5000 XP above 20th level? I thought he engaged in frequent off-screen XP farming. O well, at least the overpowered magic failed. Angelo sure likes his people, doesn't he? Most villains lose confidence in their employees after they fail and don't want to employ them again. Angelo is using top-level spells to fix their - wait, is he shedding glitter as he goes? Why is the Miracle going to Judge Daethros? Is he Angelo's patron deity? That seems strange, he's only a demigod. Warren is serving as a butler in Toad Hall! He's not even supposed to be there today. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and look how it's ended up. He's not even on the list of people to be rescued.

First, he's Epic level, so he's at least level 21. Second, in 3.5 he only gains any experience points from encounters with a CR close to his own effective level which are probably rather low in number. Three, he spends experience points for other spells and possibly magic item crafting, too. So yeah, him being close to the bottom of his level is perfectly understandable.
I half-expect there to be a notable Empire betrayal during that battle because of that setup. Since she knows what the current goal(s) would be, she could probably get away as long as what she does doesn't obviously interfere with what's being divined.

Tiltowait Technically, Vecna is only a demigod. Doesn't stop him from having clerics. Naomi Li is right, Angelo is easily epic. He's been referred to as a Mystic Theurge but whether that is a reference his classes or just a title people use for him I don't know. If the empire has access to Epic Magic, I'd be worried but so far we haven't seen anything like that. I assumed the crazy eyes on the servants was because they were under some sort of magical compulsion.

Though I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the Deity being called upon was lying to him. "It's not my fault, you're just not good enough to make the spell work right now. Totally not because I don't want all of the Good deities to gank me."

Well those two servants are actually Jordie and Warren! It's suggested they're under mental command to do castle chores, posing as castle employees...probably ordered by Janice or Bruce or both.

I'm betting on Brian being the guy with the epic magic. Angelo doesn't strike me as someone to make the effort for the magical research.

In 365, Thomas said that Brian was an epic spellcaster. I also seem to remember someone saying that a number of Thomas' students grew up evil and/or epic.
