We've got a next-day update to the comic. We've gone back to Souballo HQ to see Angelo doing some kind of Greater Divination spell to seek council from some kind of alien looking creature from G.E.A.R.S. Why's he acting like that? Sure, it's bad news, but bad news known is generally WAY better than bad news unknown. Would be nice if some of that was misinformation or just inaccurate due to them reacting to his divination or just deciding to change things up. (One of the advantages of being chaotic. ) Also, Judge Daethros's communication avatar is adorable, both in looks and behaviour. Though I didn't find Judge Daethros on the pantheon page...

Seems with divination everywhere, trying to execute secret plans is just silly. Better to rely on brute force. Just go at the enemy and dare him to stop you.
Did the artwork of those star-rods change? What are they, exactly? Why don't other characters have them too?

(One of the advantages of being chaotic. ) Also, Judge Daethros's communication avatar is adorable, both in looks and behaviour. Though I didn't find Judge Daethros on the pantheon page... He's acting like that because Angelo hates anything that even remotely inconveniences him. It's one of the unfortunate side effects of being an egotist. Daethros wouldn't troll him with misinformation though, as that would be just plain inefficient...but that doesn't mean the information is always correct. Even powerful outsiders with powerful magic can be incorrect from time to time. The reason you won't find Daethros on the pantheon page is because its not a god. It's a 'stewart to the throne' meaning that it's just running much of the workings of its plane without being an active ruler. There presently isn't a a ruler of G.E.A.R.S at this moment in history. Seems with divination everywhere, trying to execute secret plans is just silly. Better to rely on brute force. Just go at the enemy and dare him to stop you. Did the artwork of those star-rods change? What are they, exactly? Why don't other characters have them too? To be fair, divination of this level is extremely rare and only a handful of people on the plane can use it. A divination this powerful actually costs Angelo XP and costly material components every time he uses it. Divinations are also only 90% correct, especially if the source of information you get your divination from isn't on the level. The artwork for the star-rods changed a little while ago (sometime between now and the beginning of book 3 when Angelo got his art upgrade.) The rods themselves are metamagic rods which were worked into Angelo's clothing to further assist him with his magical powers. The only other person we've seen with a metamagic rod that was actively used was Sophia, but she actually used it as a scepter.

Good use of the questions so far, and surprisingly useful and clear answers. Though I bet this is a high level divination, and you get what you pay for.
They named it Brian's Big Blaster?

Well Angelo knows better than to discuss this information with the stewart; it has no sense of humor or social niceties. Yes Brian named the airship...he's known for being a little on the crass side sometimes.

That seems ridiculously overpowered. "Hey God, tell me what my enemies are planning and how we may stop it."

Yeah, well, it reflects a world where the rules in the D&D book are laws of nature. Divination magic is very powerful in the right hands. Too powerful and world-breaking, like we're seeing illustrated here.

That seems ridiculously overpowered. "Hey God, tell me what my enemies are planning and how we may stop it." Never underestimate the power of information gathering divination, especially high level spells such as this (like 8 or 9.) If you look hard enough, you might even be able to discern what one of Angelo's domains are in these couple of pages. If it makes you feel better, this divination spell does have an EXP cost of 1000. Yeah, well, it reflects a world where the rules in the D&D book are laws of nature. Divination magic is very powerful in the right hands. Too powerful and world-breaking, like we're seeing illustrated here. This guy gets it.

Note: Comic 597's "next" button still leads to 597.

So is there some kind of Chaotic alignment version of this little dude? Some overseer that's purpose is to keep things changing and never stagnating? Or could no Chaotic alignment gods ever work together with such a reasonable goal in mind?
